Excursion: Carnegie Museum of Art

This was a seniors only excursion.

Fashion was on full display at the Carnegie Museum of Art when the AEU seniors visited for the exhibition Iris van Herpen: Transforming Fashion. We took a guided tour of the exhibition which featured cutting-edge design by the Dutch fashion designer. van Herpen uses technology like laser cutting and 3D printed to create her other-worldly garments.

Excursion: Basketball & Art

February 2017

Duquesne University provided a backdrop for art and active exploration. We took a tour with Office of Public Art to see the murals on campus.

Then we bounced into the gym to play some basketball and cheer on the Duquesne Dukes.

Excursion: Summit Against Racism

January 2017

Summit Against Racism.

We attended the 19th Summit Against Racism at the Pittsburgh Theological Seminary. The conference focused on race relations in the United States through a range of workshops, panels, discussions, activities, and performances.

Workshop Artist: Memphis George

Artist Memphis George worked was invited by Arts Excursions Unlimited to work with the Hazelwood community from November 2016 to April 2017.

Community members were invited to workshops with George to create jewelry and other creative wearables.

The project culminated in a runway show at the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust’s Gallery Crawl called “Art-to-Wear from the Heart of Hazelwood.”

Workshop Artist: Hannah Rieff

We worked with artist and gardener Hannah Rieff on making a community garden at the Carnegie Library of Hazelwood.

Rieff spent several months with AEU. We visited neighborhood gardens, created a garden flag, and planted edible plants at the library.
