A musical performance of The Grinch at Heinz Hall kicked off our holiday excursion. We met some of the cast backstage after the show.
We all had dinner together at Carmi Soul Food on the Northside before dessert at the home of outgoing director of the Office of Public Art, Renee Piechocki. Our special guest, Santa Claus, showed up with gifts for all.
We spent the afternoon exploring the Pittsburgh International Airport and their art initiatives. We rode the terminal transportation, saw sculptures like Arch by Glenn Kaino and the iconic Franco Harris sculpture, the mosaic floor The Sky Beneath Our Feet by Clayton Merrill and the Tuskegee Airmen exhibition.
We explored the Hill District neighborhood and learned about the art in public places, the important sites like the childhood home of playwright August Wilson, and enjoyed some musical instrument demonstrations at the Hill House Association.
