Excursion: Fallingwater

We took a trip to see Frank Lloyd Wright’s architectural masterpiece, Fallingwater. The day was rainy, but we didn’t let the weather dampen our spirits and experience!

Arts Excursions Unlimited workshop artist, Martha Rial, had an exhibition we visited at 937 Gallery: IN UGANDA, A SCHOOL TO CALL HOME. Rial is a Pulitzer Prize winning photographer.

Excursion: Zoo

September 2016

We visited the Pittsburgh Zoo & PPG Aquarium. We saw lions, ostriches, flamingos, and more.

Excursion: Libraries

July 2016

The Latino Family Center and Arts Excursions Unlimited joined together for a day of library tours throughout the region.

We visited four distinct libraries each with their own specialties and resources. Our day began at CLP-Downtown with an introduction to the business and career resources available at this branch. Then we had in- depth tour of the Main Carnegie Library of Pittsburgh. There are an abundance of programs, resources, archives, and collections at this multistory location.

We headed to the Mon Valley to visit the dynamic and art centric headquarters of the Braddock Carnegie Library which just happens to be the very first library Andrew Carnegie built in the U.S.

Our last stop took us across the Monongahela River to the Carnegie of Homestead Library that has a fitness center, swimming pool, and theater.

Excursion: Grow

How does urban food and plant production sustain us, impact community development, and contribute to the economic vitality of people and neighborhoods?

We explored several models of small and large scale agricultural production in Manchester.

We toured the professional greenhouses of the Drew Mathieson Center and made a hydroponic vessel out of a soda bottle.

Then we met up with students from the Manchester Academic Charter School for a tour and presentation of their garden which features . Our last stop was Manchester Farms, a large community garden.

Excursion: Summer

June 2016

We kicked off a summer of reading by attending the Summer Reading Extravaganza at the Main Library in Oakland. We played games, participated in storytime, and lots of family-friendly activities.

We also saw the dinosaurs at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History and explored Discovery Basecamp, a hands-on interactive exhibition that features animals and dinosaur bone digging.

Excursion: Opulence

May 2016

This was a seniors only excursion.

On this seniors only trip, we explored The Frick in Point Breeze. We went inside the historic Clayton house, the former estate of Henry Clay Frick, where we learned about his life in Pittsburgh. We also enjoyed the gardens and greenhouse.
